Bio

Carlos Anthony, a screenwriter, producer, and novelist, is celebrated for his poignant stories that shed light on experiences Black males have historically been hesitant to share. His debut novel, "Shades Of Black," is not only a national bestseller but also acclaimed for its insightful exploration of these themes, earning it a spot on the Global Reading List for students in 2024.

Carlos's passion for storytelling was ignited at Humber College during his studies in Advertising & Marketing. This passion evolved as he traversed various professional and blue-collar roles, meeting men from diverse backgrounds and observing the complex nature of masculinity shaped by factors like education, class, culture, and immigration status. These experiences formed the foundation of his writing.

A father from the age of eighteen and a survivor of loss, abuse, and addiction, Carlos's life experiences are deeply woven into his narratives. He views art as a powerful medium for healing and is committed to using his storytelling to challenge and break generational curses. Writing, for Carlos, is a way to both humanize the Black male experience and debunk the myth that vulnerability and empathy signify weakness.

Based in Windsor, Ontario with his wife and children, Carlos is also a key figure in the local arts community. He is the director of operations of programming at the Windsor Black International Film Festival and a co-founder of the Millennial X & CBC filmmaking program. His dedication to promoting BIPOC voices is further demonstrated through his founding of three Nuit Blanche installations, each celebrating 12 hours of Black literature, BIPOC filmmakers, and BIPOC musicians.

Carlos's creative output is varied and impactful, including web series, short films, published essays, and his viral short story series. His works often tackle themes of Black adolescence, fatherhood, fidelity, work ethic, healthy relationships, and overcoming adversity. With the national bestseller "Shades Of Black" and its eagerly awaited sequel, Carlos continues to leave an indelible mark on the literary world, offering deep insights into life's complexities and the human spirit.
